A Cause For Concern With Peter Wiley, Enterprise Account Manager At Nutanix

Peter Wiley, Enterprise Account Manager at Nutanix, says Broadcom’s $69bn acquisition of VMware is forcing online gambling businesses to rethink their infrastructure strategies and set up.

Why are companies looking to migrate away from VMware?

Broadcom’s $69bn acquisition of VMware has led to concerns among many customers about pricing, supplier and partner management, support and future product investment.

The acquisition led to a strategic overhaul of VMware’s operational and product strategies, particularly a transition to subscription-based licensing models and the discontinuation of perpetual licenses and Support & Subscription renewals.

In total, Broadcom has killed more than 50 VMware products since the acquisition. This has led many organisations to reevaluate their cloud strategies, with most taking the decision to migrate away from VMware.

How can companies deal with VMware uncertainty?

They need to find calm amidst the storm and the most effective way to do that is to find another provider. Of course, this can be a lengthy process so, at Nutanix, we’ve developed a simple framework to help organisations stabilise in the interim.

The first step is to Constrain. By this, we mean to limit exposure to and further investment in VMware while improving efficiency and flexibility. Next is to Convert. This is the seamless transition away from VMware infrastructure through purpose-built tools and services.

The final step is to Construct. This means reducing risk by building, running and managing modern workloads and new instances of existing workloads on a platform that offers more choice, flexibility and, of course, stability.

We are able to offer this through our cutting-edge solutions which sit on best-in-class platforms from Fujitsu backed up by truly global product support. This is a powerful combination that delivers certainty rather than causes uncertainty across the globe.

Can you tell us more about the relationship between Nutanix and Fujitsu?

Fujitsu and Nutanix have a strong strategic partnership. Fujitsu resells and integrates Nutanix's hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) solutions into its own offerings. This means that Fujitsu customers can acquire and utilise Nutanix technology through Fujitsu's sales channels and receive support from Fujitsu.

The relationship is not simply a reseller agreement; it involves joint engineering and development efforts to ensure seamless integration and optimisation of Nutanix solutions within Fujitsu's broader

IT infrastructure portfolio. This collaboration allows Fujitsu to offer its customers a comprehensive and integrated solution, combining Nutanix's HCI capabilities with Fujitsu's expertise in areas like servers, storage, networking and professional services.

Essentially, Fujitsu leverages Nutanix's technology to enhance its own offerings and provide a more competitive and comprehensive solution to its clients. The partnership allows Fujitsu to offer a modern, scalable and efficient infrastructure solution without having to develop everything from scratch.

Why should companies look to diversify their environment?

Companies can reduce risk by diversifying their VMware environment and they can do this by adding a second vendor such as Nutanix. This enables them to migrate existing workloads and deploy new workloads to the alternative platform while leveraging VMware investments until their end of life.

Working with a proven alternative not only reduces risk but also provides the flexibility to address future business needs – something that VMware customers have raised concerns around.

Of course, a dual-vendor strategy might not be right for some organisations, so the other option is to migrate away from VMware completely or rebalance workloads across core and cloud.

How exactly can they transition away from VMware?

The first step is to identify the provider they want to migrate to. At Nutanix, we offer a range of migration strategies from shifting existing VMware operations to our vSphere, which runs on the Nutanix Cloud Platform, to migrating all workloads from VMware technologies to equivalent Nutanix solutions.

Again, these solutions are housed within Fujitsu’s proven hardware. With any migration, it’s critical to understand the major elements that make up the platform being migrated to and, in this instance, how those capabilities map to the VMware products currently being used by the organisation.

It’s also important to consider the licenses you’ll need and migration pathways, both on premise and cloud. This forms the core of the migration strategy and once this is in place, it’s about working with your new provider to get the migration process underway and leveraging the available toolkits and services to ensure it is smooth, seamless and runs to schedule.

Does it present an opportunity to benefit from hybrid cloud? How can this be done with Nutanix?

Absolutely. At Nutanix, we believe hybrid multicloud is the future of IT. Why? Because this operating model can enhance efficiency with seamless app and data migration, management and security.

That said, without the right planning, a hybrid multicloud strategy can be a recipe for chaos due to several factors causing growing complexity. This includes the explosion of apps and data, workloads being run across disparate environments and the rise of GenAI.

We help organisations overcome this complexity through a hybrid multicloud that is simple and cost effective. Our solution offers a single platform from which customers can run apps and manage data anywhere. This enables businesses to accelerate digital transformation, gain workload portability and lower their TCO.

Why is combining hybrid cloud and Nutanix so effective for business in the online gambling

industry?

Businesses operating in the global online gambling industry are facing the complexities mentioned above. They are running countless applications and generating vast amounts of data, many are getting lost in disparate environments, and the majority are bringing AI into their systems and processes.

This in turn is bringing chaos to their infrastructure, compounded by the tightly regulated nature of the industry with companies often having to meet different requirements in different markets.

By embracing the cloud, and our hybrid multicloud solution, online gambling businesses can overcome these complexities, avoid the chaos they bring and ultimately streamline and grow their operations now and long into the future.

How important is infrastructure in terms of navigating the ever-evolving regulatory landscape, especially new markets opening up?

It’s crucial because with the right infrastructure, operators and suppliers can deploy quickly into new and emerging markets via solutions such as IaC and hybrid cloud, which are usually required under regulations but which also allow them to gain that all-important first mover advantage.

What’s more, the right infrastructure is key to delivering a superior user experience, including greater uptime and higher availability. It can empower developers with self-service to allow for faster development and to get new features out the door ahead of schedule.

The right infrastructure, such as the one offered by Nutanix and Fujitsu, also allows organisations to be more efficient with a lower footprint and supports wider net zero and ESG goals. So, as well as being able to navigate the ever- changing regulatory environment, it also gives organisations a competitive edge.
