Cathy Langrand, HR Manager at PandaScore, says that innovation, collaboration and inclusivity have been key to creating a thriving working environment where everyone feels valued and is motivated to succeed.
Can you tell us more about your role as HR Manager at PandaScore?
I’m the go-to person for everything related to our people. This covers most things from recruiting and onboarding new pandas (this is what we call our awesome team members) to keeping everyone happy, motivated and working towards their individual targets and goals as well as that of the business.
My main focus is on creating a positive work environment that centres around the well-being of our pandas, whether they’re working remotely or from our Paris office. I try to create an environment where everyone feels valued and connected, which can be challenging when you have different members of the team working from different locations. But I have really embraced this challenge as it’s what makes the role such a fun and rewarding one for me.
Additionally, I also do a lot of work behind the scenes, managing admin stuff to make sure everything runs smoothly. It’s a bit of an invisible role, but it’s all about making sure our team can focus on what they do best.
What are some of the challenges you face in the position and how do you overcome them?
One of the main challenges is managing the diverse needs of our team, especially since many of us work remotely from various locations in Paris and beyond. It’s not just about handling different time zones, but also about understanding and addressing the unique perspectives, expectations and work styles that come with our varied backgrounds and personalities.
To tackle this, we focus on personalising our approach to HR and employee well-being including investing in tools that enhance communication and foster collaboration across locations. This ensures everyone feels supported and stays connected to each other as well as our company values and vision.
Another significant challenge is balancing daily tasks with unexpected surprises and exciting projects.
With so much on the plate, it’s a real juggling act! Our flexibility is key here. I stay organised and adaptable, prioritising tasks to maintain smooth operations while exploring new opportunities. This helps us stay aligned with our goals and ensures that our team, despite being spread across the world, can work effectively and achieve success together.
What’s the best part about your job?
The best part is seeing just how great our team is. It’s incredibly rewarding to know we’ve brought together such a nice group of people who really click and work well as a team.
Watching everyone collaborate, support each other and achieve success together makes me proud of the decisions we’ve made when it comes to hiring and fostering the culture that we have. It’s a true reflection of the vibrant and positive environment we’ve built at PandaScore.
Having such a positive framework in place makes my job a little bit easier, especially when it comes to onboarding new team members and quickly making them feel like a true panda.
HR is often at the forefront of company culture. What culture has PandaScore fostered?
At PandaScore, we’ve built a culture of innovation, collaboration and inclusivity. We encourage everyone to bring their ideas to the table and work together to push boundaries – this is not only evidenced by our award-winning suite of esports betting products, but in how we have been able to quickly establish the company as a true leader in the space.
We also prioritise work-life balance and personal well-being, making sure our team feels supported both professionally and personally.
We’ve embraced a flexible culture that not only supports our team across different locations but also values diversity in backgrounds and experiences. Inclusion is at the heart of what we do, making sure that every voice is heard, and everyone feels connected and valued, no matter where they are or who they are.
Why is company culture so important?
Company culture is what makes a workplace truly great. It influences how we work together, tackle challenges and grow as a team. A strong culture builds trust and a sense of belonging, which drives everyone’s motivation and success. And let’s be honest, having a fun and positive culture makes work a lot more enjoyable and keeps everyone excited about what they’re doing! This is absolutely necessary to allow people to unlock their full potential which is not only beneficial to the individual but also to the company.
What makes PandaScore’s company culture stand out?
What really sets PandaScore apart is our genuine commitment to each other. We’re not just colleagues, we’re a team that supports and celebrates each other’s successes. Our culture is built on transparency, respect and a shared passion for what we do (and esports <3). This creates a vibrant and dynamic workplace where everyone feels empowered to contribute and make a difference while having huge amounts of fun along the way.
Anything else to add?
I’d just say that working at PandaScore is a unique experience. It’s a place where you can genuinely be yourself, contribute meaningfully and have a really good time while doing so. The mix of esports, collaboration and a team that really clicks makes it a pretty special place to be.
