Amber Gaming, a prominent betting and gaming operator in Lithuania, has been fined €15,000 ($15,900) by the Lithuanian Gambling Supervisory Authority.
This regulatory action follows a complaint lodged by a bettor who alleged that the operator restricted their betting options.
The Lithuanian Gambling Supervisory Authority maintains strict oversight of gambling operators in the country and takes punitive measures against those found in breach of established regulations. In this case, the Authority imposed the fine after an investigation into Amber Gaming's practices revealed violations of Lithuania's Law on Gambling.
The investigation was prompted by a complaint filed by a bettor earlier in the year, who claimed that Amber Gaming had limited their betting offers without providing a clear reason.
The operator's response was that the player had placed 279 sports wagers, and the data associated with these activities was considered confidential and constituted the company's commercial secret.
The Lithuanian Gambling Supervisory Authority conducted an unplanned special inspection in response to the operator's response. Despite the probe, the Authority was unable to ascertain the reasons behind Amber Gaming's decision to limit betting options for the complaining client. As a result, it concluded that the operator's actions violated Article 18, paragraph 1 of Lithuania's Law on Gambling.
This is not the first fine imposed on Amber Gaming this year. In February, the company was fined €6,000 ($6,400) by the gambling watchdog for sending two emails between June and August 2022 that allegedly directed clients to its website.
Similarly, the Lithuanian Gambling Supervisory Authority recently fined another operator, Top Sport, nearly $27,000 for breaches related to providing services to a self-excluded individual. This marked the second fine imposed on Top Sport by the Authority in the same year.
