Holiday-themed titles are an annual part of the Gaming Corps release calendar, what is it that keeps bringing you back to festive-themed games?
The holidays are such a fantastic time of year for all of our partners and our players, and we love getting in the festive spirit at Gaming Corps. As such, we always keep a portion of our roadmap dedicated to the development of at least one holiday-themed title.
We’ve had great success with our Christmas-themed titles in the past, which is why we are so excited to be launching Xmas Unwrapped this year. Holiday-themed titles have always been a big hit for us, and our Smash4Cash™ games have been immensely popular with players, so why not combine the two and give all of our players a little gift in time for the festive period?
What do you believe players are looking for when playing holiday-themed titles?
When people think of the holiday-period, they think of home-comforts. Being warm, cosy and wrapped up around the fireplace with presents under the tree. When we’re designing our Christmas-titles, we want to capture that mood and really help to put players in the festive spirit.
Do you take a different approach when creating a holiday-themed game to your standard year-round title?
Yes. The key to holiday-themed titles is finding a little bit of something for everybody. We wouldn’t want to alienate players who like a certain type of game, for example, or make a game too volatile or the bonuses too complex. As we only tend to release one or two holiday-themed titles a year, we need to ensure that they have mass appeal and will keep the majority of players entertained.
Holiday-themed slots are designed to be crowd-pleasers; essentially, we want to combine everything players love about our games and wrap it up in a nice festive bow, which we believe we’ve achieved with Xmas Unwrapped.
What are the biggest challenges when developing Christmas games?
The biggest challenge facing us when releasing a game during the Christmas period is standing out from the crowd.
From mid-November until Christmas Day, developers across the industry are releasing holiday-themed titles. Some will be re-skins of popular games, while others will be really creative. We need to ensure our titles fall into the latter category and that we can provide our players with a unique gameplay experience.
Fortunately, we believe we are in a position to be able to do this thanks to unique gameplay mechanics like Smash4Cash™. This gives us a key advantage in one of the most competitive periods on the calendar.
With Christmas games having quite a limited shelf-life, how do you ensure you grab player’s attention and make the most of the festive season?
Getting our product out there early is essential. It might sound obvious, but to really maximise your shelf life, you need the game to be on the shelf for as long as possible.
However, timing is key; releasing it too early could result in players being uninterested, and it can also appear cynical. We have found that around mid-November is the sweet spot, even if it is an extremely competitive time of year.
