Esports continues its upward surge in 2024, with SOFTSWISS Sportsbook reporting an impressive doubling in turnover for Q3, compared to the previous quarter.
A notable increase of 17.6% in average bets on esports highlights the growing appetite among bettors for cybersports, as SOFTSWISS detailed in its Q3 2024 report.
Football and Esports Lead the GGR Rankings
Football remains the top choice for bettors, dominating with nearly half of the Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) generated in Q3. Following closely are Tennis, Basketball, Table Tennis, and eFootball.
Interestingly, eFootball has maintained its lead over Counter-Strike 2, marking the second consecutive quarter with this hierarchy, suggesting an evolving preference within the esports sector.
Alexander Kamenetskyi, Head of SOFTSWISS Sportsbook, commented on this shift: “Aligning a launch with a major sporting event can be a successful strategy, but football is not the only sport that can be leveraged in this way. The growth of cybersports presents new opportunities; for specialised projects targeting specific audiences, esports events can also serve as an effective starting point.”
Strong Growth in Live Betting
Live betting continued to grow, with the average live bet value rising by 10% quarter-on-quarter. Live bets now account for 78.6% of the sportsbook’s turnover, signaling a promising avenue for revenue.
In response to this trend, the SOFTSWISS Sportsbook team is actively enhancing the live betting experience to drive further engagement and revenue opportunities for operators.
Key Metrics and Expansion Plans
Q3 also saw a 9.7% increase in the average bet size and an 18.7% rise in the number of bets placed. GGR posted a steady quarter-on-quarter increase of 1.5%.
These gains came despite a flurry of projects linked to UEFA Euro 2024; however, month-on-month statistics show that the right promotional strategies can sustain momentum beyond such marquee events.
SOFTSWISS is also broadening its reach, with certification underway in Brazil and a recent integration of a Horse Racing Module for the South African market. This new addition provides operators access to over 2,400 races monthly, complete with race cards, silks, and various betting types.
The module also offers unique branding configurations, allowing operators to align their platform aesthetics with brand identities.
