Capcom's upcoming Street Fighter 6 was developed with eSports in mind, as confirmed by company president Haruhiro Tsujimoto.
The latest installment in the Street Fighter series was designed to cater to the growing eSports scene in Japan, with measures taken to encourage casual players to join the competitive community.
In an interview with Japanese media outlet Famitsu, Tsujimoto-san expressed his concerns about the exclusivity of eSports communities, where only professionals participate. He revealed that Street Fighter 6 was developed from the ground up to provide a mode that can be enjoyed by single players, which will help them learn the "fun of fighting games" in a safe environment.
The game's Battle Hub mode, which simulates old-school arcade environments, was created to encourage players to take their custom avatars into the metaverse-like area designed to look like an arcade.
Street Fighter 6 will also introduce a new kind of single-player formula with its World Tour game mode, which promises to deliver an unprecedented level of detail and care towards every aspect of the game.
Street Fighter 6 will be launched on June 2 and will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Steam. Capcom's aim with Street Fighter 6 is to shake up the fighting game status quo, and the company is optimistic about the game's future.
